Booklet

 3rd print ready for purchase

An updated booklet, on the cemetery has been printed. It has been prepared with two purposes in  mind.

One is to share the updated wealth of information that is available about our ancestors that lived and are buried here at Ravenswood.

The second is to raise funds for the upkeep of the cemetery.

This third publication includes an addendum of those who passed since the last print plus a few new finds, and a couple of spelling corrections.

We hope that you appreciate that a great deal of time and effort has gone into the publishing of this  document, which, to the best of our knowledge, contains accurate information garnered from a variety of   sources such as Scotland's People, Census of Britain 1841-1921, Canadian Census 1841-1921, Canadian Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates.

This booklet also outlines early Ravenswood, shows copies of deeds, maps of the cemetery and pictures of all gravestones at the time of printing.

Also included in this booklet are the specific dates of birth, death, married and maiden names, names of the parents and spouses. As well, as many obituaries that could be found are included.

JENNIE THOMSON

The funeral of the late Miss Jennie Thomson, the news of whose sudden death in Detroit on Sunday, April 15th, 1902 came with a shock to her many friends, took place from the family residence to the Ravenswood Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon. The services were conducted by the family pastor, Rev. H. Currie. Deceased was the fourth daughter of Mrs. Donald Thomson, and besides her aged mother, leaves three brothers and two sisters to mourn her loss: Mrs. G. H. Duffus, Rapid City, Man., Miss Effie Thomson at home, Donald of Chicago, Archie and John of Bosanquet.  Over 80 rigs followed to the cemetery. The pall bearers were all old friends- D.F. McIntyre, A. McLarty, A.D. Chester, W.A. Lapham, J.R. Beer and James Thomson. Among those present from a distance were: her brother Donald from Chicago and her niece Miss Marion Nimmo from Detroit and brother-in-law A. Nimmo from Detroit. Among the floral offerings was a spray of carnations and ferns from Mr. and Mrs. Snook of Mount Clemens, Mich. A memorial service will be held in the Presbyterian church on Sunday 20th at 3 PM. Much sympathy is felt for the mother and all the family as the one who has gone was a favourite with all. Deceased had been in Detroit since last Christmas and had been in good health until a week previous to her death. She was removed to the hospital on Tuesday of last week but suddenly grew worse, becoming unconscious Sunday and dying that evening. Word had been received here of her serious illness and, on Sunday, her brother John left for Detroit but life had fled before he reached her. The remains were brought to Forest on the three o’clock express Tuesday morning and conveyed to her mother’s home here. This is the fifth death in a family of 10 grown up children.
